VISUAL ARTS

Through a variety of art mediums, students enter the world of Visual Arts exploring, experimenting, and creating one-of-a-kind treasures. They will discover the creative genius of God and our natural ability to create because we are made in His image.

Grades 1 & 2 – Art Explosion: Using art masters of the past to guide us, we’ll use basic art elements like color, line, shape, pattern, and texture to create unique masterpieces.

CLASS FULL Grades 3 & 4 – Ceramics & Clay: Roll it, pound it, squish it, and shape it. Clay!! Transform soft, malleable, low fire white and terra cotta clay into fired and glazed treasures. CLASS FULL

Grades 5 & 6 – Photography: Explore and experiment in photography. As students look at life through the lens of a camera, they will begin to see the world in a new and exciting way.

Materials: Students should wear old clothes and/or bring a paint shirt to protect clothing. Some projects may be messy!

THEATRE ARTS

This high-energy track introduces students to the basics of theatre. Students will use their imaginations and senses while developing their God-given talent to communicate with an audience. All classes include emotional, facial, and body expression, character development, basic stage movement, common stage terms, vocal control skills, and understanding more about God and how He can use creative talents to glorify Him.

Grades 1, 2, & 3 – Faces, Feelings, and Expressions!: Prepare to be amazed as you transform from a frightened mouse into a fearless lion. This class involves lots of imagining, pretending, game playing, and acting fun while developing self-confidence and stage presence.

Materials: Students may be asked to bring items from home for class exercise. If so, these will be items commonly found in most homes and should not be purchased. Nothing extra will be needed on the first day.

MUSIC

In this exciting track, students will discover God’s world is filled with sound and they can be a part of the music making. The week of music experience will climax in a musical performance on the following Sunday, but their adventure of creating music can go on for a lifetime.

Grades 1, 2, & 3 – Intro to Music: If you like to beat, bang, and keep time, you’ll love this class. We’ll learn basic rhythms and work towards performing together.

Grades 4, 5, & 6 – Intro to Ukulele: Bring the bright, sunny sounds of Hawaii here to San Gabriel. We'll string together the basic concepts of solo and group Ukulele performance and be #trendy while doing it.

Materials: TBD

CREATIVE CRAFTSMANSHIP

Students in Creative Craftsmanship are not limited to one medium or genre, but get to create in a variety of unique and unexpected ways! Grades 3 & 4 – Eco Art: We will be looking at objects and materials that are generally thrown away with new eyes as we explore the endless possibilities of re-purposing to create amazing art. Materials: Students should wear old clothes and/or bring a paint shirt to protect clothing. Some projects may be messy!

CULINARY ARTS

Food not only fuels us, it can inspire and cultivate creativity in very “satisfying” ways. Students in this track will learn some basic food vocabulary, safety in the kitchen, experiment with tools of the trade, and have hands on experience in creating culinary delights.

Grades 5 & 6 – Kitchen Creations: Is cooking your calling? Learn how do dice, slice and julienne and how to make food you can’t wait to display, taste, and share.

Materials: Closed toe shoes and long pants are required in the kitchen. Hair should be pulled up or back for all classes.

DANCE

Let the fun begin! Students in the Dance Track will develop basic coordination and flexibility, learn basic dance vocabulary, learn and apply dance warm-up and across the floor progressions, be introduced to various dance techniques and styles, and learn/perform a finished dance for the following Sunday. They’ll also discover how God created our bodies for movement and learn what it means to dance for and with God.

Grades 1, 2, & 3 – Hip Hop and More!: If words like locking, popping, old skool, and krumping make you want to move, then check a more “down” dance style, Hip Hop. We’ll learn both basic dance, as well as some beginning hip hop moves, and put it all together for a “phat” Showcase piece to be performed.

Materials: Depending on the class, different types of dance shoes may be suggested, but if they cannot be purchased, socks are preferred to tennis shoes or bare feet. Shoe details will be provided upon registration. Clothes should be comfortable but form fitting. This allows the teacher to be able to see what the child’s body is doing during movement. No bare midriffs please. Long hair should be pulled up or back.
